Travel Consultations

At your appointment, we will provide you information about appropriate vaccinations, preventive medications, and counselling to reduce your risk of illness. We will also provide general information for your travel, which includes preventive medications and resources in case of emergency. Travel consultation also assists in workplace wellness, preventive, and executive healthcare programs to reduce healthcare costs.

The doctor may need to order blood tests or review past immunisation records in order to recommend the most appropriate vaccination schedule. Please bring records of any previous immunisations with you to the appointment. The doctor will be able to print you a travel health plan and give you prescriptions for required vaccinations.

It is important to come and see us 4-6 weeks prior to departure as the immunisations may take several weeks to be effective and some require multiple doses. You may schedule an appointment with one of our staff in advance, before your travel.

Whilst individual requirements may vary, the standard adult schedules for typical immunisations are as follows (accelerated schedule in brackets):

A charge may be made for certain immunisations and vaccinations, which are not covered by the Medicare. A list of these charges is held at reception.

Yellow Fever Vaccinations

If you are travelling to Africa, the Caribbean, Central or South America, you should be aware of the risk of yellow fever virus transmission and take the necessary precautions to protect yourself from infection.

What is yellow fever?

Yellow fever is a viral disease that is transmitted primarily by mosquitoes. Yellow fever can lead to serious illness and even death. It is called ‘yellow fever’ because in serious cases, the skin turns yellow in colour. This is known as ‘jaundice’.

It is highly recommended that all travellers be vaccinated for yellow fever if travelling to or from a yellow fever risk country.

People who are one year of age or older will be asked to provide an international vaccination certificate if, within six days before arriving in Australia, they have stayed overnight or longer in a yellow fever risk country.

The World Health Organisation has recently recommended that a single dose of yellow fever vaccine provides life-long immunity to the disease.

Vitalis Healthcare Practice is a fully accredited Yellow Fever vaccination clinic and provides the vaccine and certificate at a cost of $140. This immunisation is not covered by Medicare and the fee is payable to the practice at the time of your consultation.

Once your consultation is complete, you will be issued with a Yellow Fever certificate.

When booking your consultation for a Yellow Fever vaccination please advise our friendly receptionist so the appropriate appointment can be made. Generally, this consultation will take 30 mins and is followed by a mandatory 20-minute post immunisation observation period.
